The Letter-Sorting Department Handbook, Excerpts
The goal of the Letter Sorting Department (LS) is to filter, preprocess and reduce the [...] correspondence before it reaches Customer Management (CM). It was established [...] as a reaction to the mounting numbers of unanswered requests of category 3 (urgent) or above, and has since become an integral step in ensuring the continued operation of [...] the corporate-client relationship.
From the Letter Sorting Department Mission Statement, LS Handbook, Section 0.3
The first step of letter evaluation is determining the identity of the sender. [...] The corporately saved identity of each sender can be matched to their name and identification hash in the Records, Sections S19-S20. In case the sender does not match any identity in Sections S19-S20, it should have been (recently) moved to Section D20. If the sender is not in D20 or D19 either, file an Expiration Oversight Form (EO) and relay it to CM immediately.
From the Letter Sorting Department Instruction Manual, LS Handbook, Section 2.2
A correctly formatted letter addressed to [...] CM begins with one of the phrases recorded in this Handbook, Appendix B. These are regularly updated and depreciated. An employee of LS is expected to keep up to date with the appendices regularly. [...] Letters not adhering to this standard must be filed under IGNORE (R12), and a note must be made in the sender's record. If the sender is in a D-section, CM should be notified.
From the Letter Sorting Department Instruction Manual, LS Handbook, Section 2.2
Appendix G contains a list of banned words and phrases. Letters including these, must be filed under CENSORED (R14), [...] and after consulting the merit score card (MS) may be filed under R12. CM may be approached in edge cases or cases of extenuating circumstances. [...] Of course LS employees are expected not to use the contents in Appendix G themselves, and given lapses, [...] the employee may incur notes in their employee file (EF).
From the Letter Sorting Department Instruction Manual, LS Handbook, Section 2.5
A correctly formatted letter should end with one of the words listed in Appendix M [...]. Post-Scriptums shall not be considered by LS, unless breaking any norms determined in Sections 2 through 4. Before forwarding any letter to CM, all Post-Scriptums are to be [...] struck from the text.
Editor's note: Appendix M has not changed for several market cycles. Employees are expected to know its content by heart and will be tested for their familiarity with it with regularity. Lapses in an employee's knowledge of this section will be noted in their EF.
From the Letter Sorting Department Instruction Manual, LS Handbook, Section 4.3
Rejected letters are to be brought to Disposal (DD). Each employee is expected to bring their rejected letters by DD by the end of their shift [...]. A regular load of rejected letters ranges between 185 - 230 [...]. Removing letters from DD or LD is unacceptable.

Reviewal Notes on the Letter-Sorting Department Handbook, Version 112a, printing 14:
Given most letters do not reach CM, the efficacy of LD should be considered high. The changes in the handbook are determined by CM to not deviate too strongly from Version 112a, printing 12, hereby approving this version for official use. Signed, CM department head.
