The Long Second

I've watched the minutes crawling forth,
fractured steps with every thought,
that cycles and recycles still,
on senseless words, with waning will,
wish only I were somewhere gone.

The moments stretch until unending,
their weight unyielding and mind-bending.
The task is merely to sit and wait,
show loyal will and time to waste,
and appease the lord, til the day's done.
